Spot UV has a highly unique finish, which makes it appeal to people’s sense of touch. People love running their fingers over spot UV, to feel the bumps of the raised finish. Our Spot UV Business Bards are printed on a premium, 450gsm silk board and finished with matt lamination, to create a striking contrast with the spot UV embellishment. There is also the option of adding metallic foil stamping to the front along with spot UV.
IMPORTANT: Please ensure there is a 2mm gap between spot UV and foil stamp artwork elements, if you choose both features for your business card.

Create interesting textures. Thanks to spot UV’s unique feel, you can really appeal to people’s sense of touch. People love running their fingers over spot UV, to feel the bumps of the raised finish.
Make use of repetition. One simple way to create an effective spot UV design is to repeat a specific element. This could be a symbol related to your company, your logo or simply an unrelated pattern using lines or dots.
Use spot UV 'blind.' Spot UV is at its most effective when used without changing the colour beneath it. When applied to a large block of colour, the glossy finish is enough to distinguish spot UV design elements from the background, meaning that really subtle, sophisticated images can be created.
Be sparing. As with many things related to design, less is more. Sometimes, just a small amount of spot UV can be incredibly effective.
Go overboard. Some cards are almost entirely covered in spot UV. We find that spot UV is most effective at around 25% coverage. If your design is simple, you can get away with more and still create a very high-end looking card.
Leave small gaps or use small text, as they may 'fill in' with spot UV. In order to maintain clean definition, be wary of small text, chunky fonts or indeed any pattern with small enclosed gaps. Feel free to reach out to our Artwork Support Team for guidance using the Help Desk in your account, if you're unsure about your artwork.
We don't recommend using full bleed spot UV. If your spot UV artwork goes right to the very card edge, it may 'crack' slightly during guillotining. Many customers still choose to have full bleed spot UV designs, but this is something to keep in mind.
The production times quoted on our website are based on typical production schedules and cannot be guaranteed. If you require a product urgently or by a specific date, please contact us before ordering and we will do our upmost to adjust our production schedules and meet your needs. Our ability to meet very tight delivery deadlines is subject to order specifications, quantities, machine requirements, third-party couriers and several other factors that may be beyond our control.
Colour variation is inherent in any printing process, you should expect a 10% colour shift between print runs.
All foil stamping is carried out in-house at After Hours Creative. We apply foil effects using an etched metal die/plate and a combination of heat and pressure to press the foil in to the card stock. This foil stamping process creates a slight indentation in the card stock during the foil application. The amount of indentation is carried out at the discretion of the foil technician. Too much of an impression can cause the foil to bleed around the edges or create filling in between foil elements. Our priority is always achieving the highest quality foil print.
Debossing entails making a subtle indentation into the stock, with the absence of foil (blind debossing) or with foil. Any media produced with debossing is done at the technician's discretion, as too much of a deboss can cause the foil to bleed around the edges and result in a poor quality finish, so we find a balance between quality of print and the level of deboss.
